The film reveals a story about a Russian Red Army officer and a political instructor Nikolay Kisilev who, while a local guerrilla warrior, managed to save the lives of 218 people by helping them to cross the front line.In 1941 the village of Dolginovo, Belorussia, has become a territory occupied by the Germans. 5000 Jews lived in that township. In 1942 the unprecedented slaughter of the Jews has been cruelly unleashed. Only 278 people did succeed in surviving by the summer of next year, being mostly the aged, women and children, those who managed to hide in the forest or in the cellar. The Belorussian peasants were terrified to death to try and hide the Jews. Nikolay Kisilev headed the dangerous expedition, consisting of as many as 270 Jewish refugees, and supported by 8 of his guerrillas.Having crossed more than 1500 km of the occupied territory, Kisilev managed to bring with him out of the danger zone as many as 218 people. |
